A short drive north from South Congress and you arrive in downtown Austin. I got to enjoy atypical vantage points as my wife drove us home. I quickly took out my Fujifilm X100V and snapped a few photos.
We’re on the Congress Avenue Bridge, which spans Lady Bird Lake, famous for hosting the largest urban bat colony in the world. Dead center, the Capitol building of Texas, is dwarfed by all the new construction. The skyscraper under construction on the left will be Austin’s tallest at 875 feet.
Looking out the side window afforded me an excellent view of the Rainey Street District, also going through its boom. I see five construction cranes building the next generation of residential living.
One of those under construction is the Waterline, Austin’s next tallest building at 1,022 feet. Scheduled to complete in late 2026, it should also be Texas’ tallest skyscraper besting Dallas and Houston.
