I met Nailea for the first time at the same Drink and Click event that I’ve featured for the last several days. That was back in January of this year.
I discussed subject poses more than in the past in this Drink and Click series. In particular, which way they are facing relative to the camera. In Nailea’s case, she looked directly at the camera for all my selects, and I chose a straightforward pose standing upright. Nothing fancy. But I like her neutral expression.
As expected, everyone reacts differently in front of the camera. Models and wannabes often have preset poses that they cycle through. Some smile too much. Surprisingly, it’s often hard to get a neutral, uncomplicated expression. However, that’s what I continually strive for. There’s a lot for me to learn, which requires practice. These Drink and Click events allow me to dabble in portraiture, a form that’s very different from my primary photographic subject.
