Epic Scale

Cour Napoléon, Louvre – Paris, France

I’ve been slowly revealing my next tourist destination over the last few days, and I’m sure people familiar with Paris already know where I went. However, this picture is as iconic as it gets for the Louvre, a once castle turned palace turned art museum.

This complex is so large it’s hard to capture the scale of it — that’s part of my photographic frustration. I shot this with a 24mm equivalent, a wide angle that increases the distance from near to far. Thus, if you see this in person, the distance to the glass pyramid is closer than it looks here. Using a 40 to 50mm would create a more accurate perspective. However, the angle of view isn’t wide enough to show all these structures. To get around this, a panorama stitched from multiple 40mm images would be ideal — I took the easier route.

Most of my blog titles are unique, though once and a while, I have duplicates. Suspecting that I used the same title before, I searched and found this post from India from December 2019. Apropos that both structures are palaces — the royals know how to build big, impressive buildings and with the resources to do so.
