Louvre Interior Architecture #3

Interior Architecture, Louvre - Paris, France

Interior Architecture, Louvre – Paris, France

We mix great architecture with sculpture for my third and last image from the Louvre interior architecture mini-series. Design-wise, I prefer just a single statue centered within the arch. But this museum has many pieces to display — perfectly understandable how they designed the space. It’s a restrained approach, like a high-end apparel boutique with a small set of choice merchandise.

Notice how four archways line up, creating four connected rooms. Architecturally this is called an enfilade, a suite of rooms with doorways in line with each other. I’ve seen this design pattern in other French buildings I visited.

I also appreciate the delicate but ornate moldings, which don’t overwhelm the space, given the relative simplicity of the walls. The modern silver lighting nicely contrasts with the classic rooms. You can tell I enjoy analyzing the buildings more than the contained artwork.
