Just when you thought I was finished with the Musée d’Orsay, I’m back. Don’t worry, I didn’t go back inside. We just passed through from the cafe on the way to the next destination. A few days ago, I mentioned that I was doing my final post from “inside” the Musée d’Orsay — weasel words to accommodate a few more posts from the outside.
There’s an eclectic mix of statues, and I didn’t know how animal statues relate to this set of female figures. I looked it up. All were displayed at the Palais de Trocadero for Paris’ third World Fair in 1878.
I used slight compression to create an impressive diagonal of statues. The six female figures represent the six continents.
The museum was significantly more crowded in the afternoon, as you can see around the elephant.
I wasn’t trying to document all the artwork outside. I just snapped pictures of the statues as we walked through the plaza. In addition to this rhinoceros and the elephant above, I missed the horse somewhere. A reason to return to the Musée d’Orsay the next time I’m in Paris.
