As I indicated yesterday, I’m pausing my European coverage, which is already four and a half months long. I blogged about SXSW 2023 back in May, but there’s much more to talk about. With a risk of nesting two trips, I’m starting a series about a short vacation I took earlier this year.
We are at the Austin airport in February 2023, and I crafted a motion blur aptly named Jetset. I’m not an extreme traveler, but I have steadily increased my vacation travel as I get older. I feel like I’m starting to run out of time and want to take the opportunity while in good health. This trip was without my family over an extended weekend, and I’ll reveal my destination in a couple of posts.
I didn’t travel as lightly as my European trip, bringing two cameras and three lenses. However, my primary was the compact Fujifilm X-S10, which I purchased at the end of 2022. I bought a new lens for this trip, the Fujifilm 16mm f2.8, which I used for my SXSW posts this year. The fixed focal length at a 24mm equivalent worked remarkably well, and I shot 90% of my pictures with this lens.

If you are like me, you will find that 25mm is a “sticky” focal length, or field of view on crop sensors. When you decide you like it, you stick with it.
Which crop sensor camera do you use, PaulN?

My crop sensor camera is a Lumix G9. Though, I have been a fan of 24mm going back to film.

Thanks, PaulB. The Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4 is one of my favorite lenses on the Micro 4/3 systems.
Yes, that is a great lens. Though, to get the field of view of a 24/25 mm on full frame you would be using a 12mm on M43.
My current favorite lens to get me there is the Panasonic-Leica 8-18mm zoom.

My micro 4/3 wide angle of choice was the Olympus 9 – 18mm f4. Here are all the pictures I made with that lens.

Back when I shot extensively with micro 4/3, I wasn’t into 12mm (24mm equivalent). It was only after playing with the 16mm on Fuji APS-C (24mm equivalent) I learned to appreciate it.

Olympus lenses Rock! They give any lens maker a real run for the money regardless of format. Unfortunately, the cameras lagged in sensor performance at times snd let the lenses down.
If OMD would decide to jump into making Medium Format lenses (Fuji mount), and/or high end compact fixed lens (FF/MF) cameras, they may be able to make a solid niche that will support them long term.

A shame really about the cameras. I enjoyed using Olympus cameras for along time.
My last Olympus camera was the Pen-F, and there was a lot to like about it. Where it left me at times was the 12-bit color depth and low light performance.
Now I’m using the Lumix G9 at it holds its own. I really don’t find any major flaws with it. The size and weight more than makes up for any degraded performance the
M43 sensor may bring.

I still have my PEN-F. I love the look and build of the camera as well as the contrasty built-in black and white JPEG setting.
