The train station in Zermatt and the surrounding architecture were almost storybook-like, with traditional wood structures overflowing with red flowers. It was unlike any place I’ve seen.

Zermatt is a resort mountain town with about 5,800 permanent residents at an elevation of 5,275 feet. The population can swell considerably when tourists are included in this hotel-packed place known for skiing and mountain climbing.

The town is especially famous for an Alpine mountain that was on my mom’s bucket list, which I’ll discuss in a later post. She’s the reason we came here to Switzerland, and since it was my wife’s first visit to Europe, we were happy to tag along and experience something different from Paris.
