The Eiffel Tower looks great day or night, but I like it better at night, especially since they added that search beam at the top. I’m inching closer to the tower. My first night shot was from the hotel shot at 120mm equivalent.
I’m at the maximum 120mm equivalent again, shooting the tower from the Louvre. Standing in the middle of the courtyard, I struggled to get a clean 1/4 of a second at this long focal length. The more telephoto, the harder it is to shoot at a slower shutter speed handheld. That’s why a tripod is ideal but cumbersome. I didn’t bring one with me.
Shooting at ISO 1250, I was limited by the post-processing, which did not allow me to lift the shadows without introducing considerable noise. Given the constraints of an old APS-C sensor with a slow f4 lens, this image is at the edge of a reasonably clean photo. You take what you can get and shoot with the equipment you have.
