Casino Building – San Antonio, Texas

It was the third and last morning of my trip to San Antonio. I woke up early again to document the city before it got crowded, and I opted to walk the streets above the level of the famous River Walk instead. San Antonio is an older and larger city than Austin, with numerous quirky historic buildings like today’s find, which is the final post from this series.

I used the metal bridge and road as a leading line to this old building with a stacked roof and a dome—except I forgot to document its name. With the 51MP from the Fujifilm GFX 50R, I could tell there was a Texas historical marker on the building, but not enough resolution to read the text. Even 100MP wouldn’t have helped with the modest 40mm equivalent lens that I used.

Since I knew this was close to the hotel, I used Google Street View to visually search the area and found a match. The Casino Building was completed in 1927 for the Casino Club, a German-American social club. It was mostly empty from 1950 to 1970 and is now an apartment building with a restaurant on the ground floor.
