I’ve shot several stores with the fisheye treatment during my stay in Hawaii. However, this one is my favorite. While I shot this image in 2022, KnightRider is still located at the International Marketplace. I didn’t go inside and didn’t know it was a jewelry store until I looked it up.

I was drawn to the interior design, and my gritty post-processing style complemented the atmosphere of this place. Coupled with the distortion, it makes for a dramatic retail shot.

Since fisheye photographs are more extreme and distorted versions of super-wide images, similar compositional rules apply. In a super wide image, you definitely want details up close. The bold black-framed doors, the striking wood floor pattern, and the curved ceiling detail all work well in this regard.
