Cloud Forest, Gardens by the Bay – Singapore

The highlight of our visit to Gardens by the Bay was touring the giant glass-enclosed Cloud Forest. One of two giant glass-enclosed environments. The Cloud Forest is a cool-moist conservatory that replicates the conditions found in tropical mountain regions, typically located 3,000 to 10,000 feet above sea level. In the center is a 138-foot mountain covered in vegetation with the world’s tallest indoor waterfall when the attraction opened in 2012.

The lush and cool attraction made perfect sense in Singapore, which is hot and humid. This place is the ideal respite from the weather. The Cloud Forest is maintained at a constant temperature of 73°F to 77°F.

The vegetation and exotic plants were interesting, but it was the architecture that attracted my attention. Walkways that almost appeared to be floating wrapped the mountain with dramatic views throughout. I’ve included several different pictures below. All shot with the Sony A7C and 24mm f2.8 lens.

After the Cloud Forest, we went next door to an even larger dome, though not as tall. It housed the Flower Dome, the world’s largest glass greenhouse spanning 3 acres. It was filled with lovely flowers, as expected, but wasn’t as exciting for me since the architecture was relatively modest. Certainly beautiful, but not nearly as dramatic as the Cloud Forest.
