How close can you get to the tennis action? Here’s an example: I found a good position along the side of the court. Although the distance is a bit deceptive because I shot this at a 75mm equivalent focal length. Still, it’s close enough that you feel like you are in the next court watching a professional play.
Shooting the action can be fun, and I did that. But I like capturing interactions more like how the ball person is offering the balls to the pro.
The compact Leica D-Lux 8 worked perfectly for these kinds of pictures. The action isn’t super fast, and it’s a matter of anticipating the interaction to snap the picture. But, how would a compact camera handle fast action? We’ll see in the next post, tomorrow.
