I quickly snapped this picture of a Ferrari in Times Square. Don’t ask me what model it is, because I don’t know. I recognize its general shape, of course, along with the famous prancing horse logo.
Ferraris in general aren’t super rare, but they’re rare enough in most places to elicit a second look—and, in this case, a photograph. I once worked in Italy for a couple of months in the 1980s. I saw two Ferraris. And yes, people turned their heads to get a second look even in its native country.
Rest assured that this Ferrari was not red before I converted the picture to black and white. That would be an unforgivable color change and a crime against Ferrari. The car was black, and making a monochrome conversion made it pop even more while reducing the visual clutter. Ironically, the bakery sign was bright red, which would have detracted from the subject.
