I shot this inside the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway, where my wife and I watched Mamma Mia! Like most, if not all, Broadway shows, photography is not allowed during the performance. I get it. It can be distracting to the performers, the nearby audience, and even the photographer. If you’re busy taking pictures, you’re not concentrating on the performance.
That said, I wish I could take pictures during the performance because, to me, photography is one of my great pleasures. Mamma Mia! was a fantastic show, but I would’ve loved to capture some scenes from it.
I did shoot this picture of the interior architecture, however, and that would have to do. It was perfectly acceptable to take pictures before the show, and at least I have a record of the theater’s interior. The Leica D-Lux 8 makes these interesting starburst patterns with lights. The blue lights shine, and coupled with the darkish, warm interior, they make for a moody environment.
