The fine folks at Precision Camera – Austin, Texas

It’s not often that Nikon announces a new Pro line of cameras. Precision Camera had a D5 and D500 launch party tonight and I stopped by after work. Impressive to be sure and, spec wise, seems to best their primary DSLR rival, Canon.

I am not the target market for these sports/action cameras, though there were plenty of interested folks. I’ll stick with my modest, entry-level D3300 for my new-found sports needs. But in another era, before my shift to documentary photography, the D500 would have pull hard at my wallet. At a standard high ISO of 51,200, even my consumer 55-300mm would work well for sports at night.

Goes to show that even a gear addicted guy like me has limits, no matter how wonderful the camera. No knock against these newest Nikons, they look like winners in their respective markets.

Speaking of new gear, I did get myself a new camera recently, which I used to shoot the photo above. Hover over the image with a mouse, if you want to find out which camera it is. Hint: it’s known as a great documentary/street photography camera which fits my style of photography. All is not well, though, with this latest purchase, which I will certainly discuss in a future post.
