Over the last several years, I’ve done a fair amount of traveling, both for work and for pleasure. I tend to shoot like crazy, even in my home town of Austin, Texas. But my shutter actuations go up an order of magnitude when I’m in travel mode. Inevitably, I have a lot of images lying dormant in my photo library that never makes it to the blog. Travelgram is going to showcase those photos.
While I might show some favorites that I’ve posted elsewhere, the majority will be new. And unlike postcards, which just show the standard tourist spots, Travelgram will tackle more unique views (most of the time).
For my inaugural Travelgram post, I feature one of my favorite photographs from India. I shot it back in 2012, in New Delhi, as part of a business trip. I did an entire post on my experience street shooting the Karol Bagh Market at night and this was the featured image.
By today’s standards, the equipment was modest. I used a slow focusing combo, the Olympus E-PL1 with the Panasonic 20mm lens. But I just love the color on the Olympus, and that E-PL1, back then, is what convinced me to continue shooting Olympus to this day.
I think the side lighting adds a little drama and somehow, there seems to be a painterly quality to the color and lighting. Shot at ISO 800, f1.7 and 1/60 of a second at a 40mm equivalent.

My pleasure ๐
The color, texture, and gesture in this image is simply stunning. I was hoping you’d share more of your pictures from India some day.
Thanks, Mike. I’m not sure if the others will be as good. Sometimes things just fall into place and end up creating a better photograph than normal.
Your pictures, are, as always, amazing! Thank you for sharing ๐
I stopped by to read this because I have something similar on streets (https://sphericalinsight.wordpress.com/2016/10/07/the-local-street-musicians/).
Streets give us the shot of the people, who teach us not just to live but live LIVE.
Excellent work.
