I met Julieta during my second visit to the SXSW Vox Media event last Sunday. She was checking registrations at the entrance. Her coordinated black outfit matched all the other Vox people but she actually works for the venue, The Belmont, which is a nice bar on West 6th Street.
Though she currently lives in Austin, Julieta is originally from Argentina. I had a pleasant chat with her, along with another woman from Vox’s New York office. Though there was a considerable line to get in, they didn’t over stuff the venue which was very pleasant and allowed me to visit with people. Luckily, I arrived early and didn’t have to wait in line.
I created these portraits, like I do with the ones from Drink and Click, using the Olympus PEN-F in monochrome JPEG plus RAW. More and more, as I’ve refined my post processing with Capture One, I’ve featured my monochrome conversions from the RAW, instead of the in-camera JPEG. But, I still like framing in monochrome, since it gives me a live view in which I can fine tune exposures optimized for these contrasty looks.
