I met Kim a few times at various Drink and Clicks. She always has a big beautiful smile. Here’s Kim, with her friend, Seven from an event back in December. However, for this shoot in February, I want serious Kim. A different kind of portrait of her. So I asked her to be serious. Of course, Kim broke out laughing, between the takes. She must be naturally happy.
I made this portrait on the same day as the one featured yesterday, of Emily. Except, I shot this outside with continuous lights instead of a strobe. This Drink and Click was at the Scoot Inn, a historic and large venue that gave us a lot of flexibility. We had a couple of portrait stations inside and a many more outside. As these events grow ever more popular, I’m sure finding larger places is becoming challenging.
When I can, I’m attempting to create photos that look less posed. Experienced models automatically move into their typical model poses, which I’m trying to avoid. Moving myself and the subject out of our comfort zones, may yield something different. All in the spirit of experimentation.
