After an extended series featuring urban landscapes, I figured it’s time to move back to portraits. I’m starting another Drink and Click series shot over multiple events. Here’s Janet, from earlier this year, at the Craftsman Bar on the east side.
Much of the interior of the Craftsman is very dark and this was no exception. In fact, I shot this in the same room as this second photo of Sissi in this post. Luckily, I had a bit more light. While Sissi was lit just with an iPhone, Janet had the benefit of a single off camera light.
Truth be told, this contrasty black and white makes it look a little darker than it was. I shot a bunch of photos as part of this set, but I think this one is the most emotive. It has a combination of mystery and vulnerability that works in a dark portrait.
