I don’t know these people. Just a couple I shot “on the street” at Waikiki Beach. Are they, in fact, a couple? Are they married and on their honeymoon? Is this their first visit? Are they staying at the Royal Hawaiian?
Photographically speaking, however, they add interest to the foreground. In fact, the photograph would be rather dull without them. But more than just mere objects placed to add interest, I think they add a story to the photograph. It’s fun to speculate or even make up stories of who they are. They appear to be admiring the beach. The woman appears to be looking at something with more intensity than the man. Is he looking at the same view I featured yesterday? Perhaps, his face seems to be looking in the right direction.
While this was a quick snap, there’s something compelling to me. The human element, most likely, and the sense of mystery of them looking at something, out of frame.
