Reflecting Pool, Trinity University – San Antonio, Texas

Rounding out my third and last urban landscape from Trinity University, I found this reflecting pool on the backside of Northrup Hall. This is the same building that I featured two days ago, from the front.

Visually and architecturally, this pool of water also aligns with yesterday’s fountain, though not physically connected. The pool of water also continues on the front side of the building and turns into a stepped water feature and retaining wall that runs to the main entrance.

All these physical alignments are probably not visible to most people, unless looking at the campus from a bird’s-eye view. I fired up a satellite map and marveled at the other geometrically planned relationships — details that I have yet to notice as a visitor on the ground. I could imagine some modern-day architect had fun overlaying the new buildings and walkways on to O’Neil Ford’s original campus master plan.
