After many weeks of heavy rain, the bright sunshine and comfortable temperatures last Sunday, enticed me to go downtown, if just for a couple of hours. I continue to marvel at the downtown development and by walking down different blocks, I discovered new architectural drama previously unseen.
I’ve talked about The Independent a few times recently, Austin’s newest luxury tower, which is currently the tallest skyscraper. I shot this when it was topped out a couple of months ago, along with the new 2nd Street Bridge. Today’s view is, I think, even more dramatic. Not too long ago, I would have never imagined towers like these, creating “big city” urban landscapes in Austin, Texas.
I brought an eclectic trio of cameras on my two-hour sortie. I made this picture with the Canon G7X Mark II, a modern compact camera with a 1 inch sensor. The 14-year-old Olympus E-300 DSLR also made it into the bag. Finally, the 40-year-old Polaroid SX-70 Sonar One Step. Each very different. Each unique in their photographic output. It’s fun to mix things up.

I love the way the light catches the corners of the building.
