You’ll probably find this strange. I had an irrational fascination with this corner store at the intersection of 24th and Mission Street, across from the BART station.
Was it the bright red and blue sign? The worn look with just the right amount of urban patina? Maybe. But, it’s the words, Chinese Food & Donuts, that made me laugh. Completely incongruous at first. A ridiculous combination that didn’t make sense to me.
Upon second thought, however, there’s logic at play here. What’s not to like. A convenient combination of two comfort foods that probably serves the neighborhood well. From the slightly aging sign, they’ve probably been around for a while. A perfect example of market based capitalism at work.
