I’m wrapping up this part of the SXSW coverage with a bus. A beauty shot at blue hour of Austin’s newest bus, the MetroRapid, some of which are double length with a flexible accordion connection in the middle.
As you may recall, I took the bus to SXSW this year, both for convenience, lower cost and to do something different. It was a worthwhile experiment and something I’ll consider again, when necessary.
I made this picture at the North Austin Transit Center. I got off that bus and looked back before heading to my parked car. I saw a worthwhile picture with a fading blue hour and the glow of a single street light.
It’s a rather impressive vehicle length wise and with some non-obvious technology enhancements. It features a live statusing system that lets you know the wait time at each bus station. I also liked that I can pre-purchase tickets with a smartphone app and scan the same app on the bus. It makes for real world improvements for the tedious part of public transit usage.
