This is not a typical car in Taylor, Texas, a small city 30 miles northeast of Austin. In fact, I’m sure a Lamborghini is not a typical car, anywhere. But, it does represent a changing Taylor.
It’s been a little over a year and a half since I was there when I attended my friend Mike’s big birthday party. I was there again recently for Mike and his wife’s 30th wedding anniversary. The downtown had not changed radically, but I was glad to see the steady progress of the renovation and new businesses opening up in the central business district.
We were all commenting about his car. Was it a hotshot tech investor from Austin looking at properties? As Austin continues to grow, I’m sure Taylor will be one of many small cities sucked into the orbit of greater Austin. The Austin area population is predicted to double by 2040, growing to around 4 million.
