Staircase Abstract – Mysore, India

With modest materials, color becomes all the more important. That’s what I found in my quick tour of the more rural areas of India. This staircase is an excellent example. I think the mix of colors, shapes, and shadows creates a somewhat abstract image.

Fancy and ornate temples are fun to photograph, but I like capturing the ordinary everyday things. I suppose that’s part of my nature, which in turn informs my photography. I prefer everyday comfort or peasant food to fancy restaurants. Casual clothes to dressy ones. Even reasonable and reliable Hondas and Toyotas to the expensive but less reliable German models.

I first considered naming this post “Staircase as Art” until I remembered that I already used that title. This is that post, which is my most popular ever, featuring a very different staircase at the Austin Central Library. Both artistic, certainly, but very different indeed.
