I might have mentioned that photographing the sparklers at the Austin Diwali festival is my favorite of the event. I love how friends and family share in this simple but visually attractive tradition. While I showed some colorful but lower resolution snapshots of this, among other things, today’s is a decidedly higher quality image that I made with the Fujifilm X-T10 and Fuji 35mm f1.4 lens.
As expected, the Fuji produced mellow and attractive skin tones, but I opted for something a bit more dramatic. I’ve never featured a black and white of the sparklers, but I think it has its own charm. The simple and mostly black background makes the foreground subjects really pop.
I still like last year’s better, but I have no complaints with the one I created this year. The native 2 by 3 framing of the Fuji also lends itself to this wider three-person photograph.

This is beautiful! I love the expressions on their faces, lit up by the sparklers.
