I’m taking liberties and assuming these folks like photography. If not — obviously — I do. I love that the Getty Center had this expansive exhibit for people appreciating photography. Old-style, classic black and white photography. Not the new stuff that seems bizarre or self-aggrandizing.
The Manet exhibit next doors might get more press and more visitors. Paintings and the old masters have more cache and marketing value. Artistically, however, impressionistic paintings don’t do it for me. Though I do like them more than medieval religious art.
Ultimately, however, I view artwork as an adjunct to the overall interior design. I’m architecture and interior design first. Paintings and photographs, to me, are part of the decoration that completes the space.
