You never really know what’s going to happen on 6th street. Especially during special events like the ROT Rally. There can be a carnival-like atmosphere.
I’m always fascinated by how people attract attention. And if it’s blowing giant fireballs in the middle of the street. I’m in. I followed this guy for a few minutes to time a good fireball burst. Not as easy with the slow-ish Fujifilm GFX 50R. That’s when a 5-frames-per-second (or faster) camera can capture the decisive moment.
This mini-mushroom cloud was the most impressive. I set the camera to underexpose so that the light from the fire wouldn’t be too bright. There is a non-trivial exposure change when these things blow up.
Note to self. Don’t get too close around these spectacles. I got liquid spray on the camera and lens, which, luckily, I wiped off without any damage.
