I was taken aback by the skyline changes that I saw from 6th street during the ROT Rally. I happen to look west towards the fading sunset. Blue hour was fast approaching, and the silhouettes of a few new buildings stood out.
Dead center with the lit triangular top is the new Indeed Tower. I’m not sure of the interior, but the exterior is now fully completed. At the top left, a chunky residential/hotel on 5th street.
I wouldn’t be surprised that — in the near future — a ring of towers surrounds the historic and low-slung 6th Street Area. The same thing has already happened to Rainey Street. All this growth might destroy what made downtown attractive in the first place. Too many modernist towers risk homogenizing the central business district, making Austin look like any big American city.
