Hard Rock Cafe – Honolulu, Hawaii

I went to my first Hard Rock Cafe back when I was in college. I think it was the original one, in London. Since then, these music-themed family-casual restaurants have spread around the world. I think I’ve been to a few others, but I can’t remember the cities. There was even once a Hard Rock Cafe in Austin, on 6th street. But it didn’t last long.

This is the one in Waikiki, which I have not visited. I just liked the glowing urban scene during blue hour. And while the rope-light-wrapped palm looks festive, it bothers me. It messes with my aesthetic. Why wrap just one palm? And only halfway up? Maybe a bit neurotic on my part. But I think about these things. Perhaps that’s the downside of being an urban landscape photographer.

As a related aside. My family and I once stayed a week at a Hard Rock Hotel in Cancun, Mexico. A very pleasurable experience and without an unbalanced light-wrap palm to disturb the visual balance.
