Ward Village Architecture #2

Ward Village Architecture - Honolulu, Hawaii

Ward Village Architecture – Honolulu, Hawaii

I looked at the slick Ward Village Website for the latest developments. Four residential towers are complete. Five more are being sold in various states of construction. This is the facade of the Ko’ula, which appears to be the furthest along of the new batch.

While all of the residences are expensive, there are three different tiers. This will be a mid-level unit. Architecturally, I noticed that the pricy towers have more flourishes. Instead of a plain box, you get some curves and textures on the facade.

Notice here how each of the windows is canted in different directions. The twisted ribbon of concrete adds another level of finesse that you don’t see in “lesser” buildings. I’m guessing all these features add to the expense. But are they worth it? At least as non-residents, we get to see some character in modern buildings.
