Austin is the self-proclaimed live music capital of the world, and East 6th Street is one concentrated destination for performances. During busy times, raucous sounds mix from competing bars. On this quiet night on Sunday, only a few dedicated musicians. This one at the Chupacabra Cantina.
The architectural bump-out serves as a glass booth for only the most compact bands. The contrasts of Inside/Outside and Warm/Cool are captured here — a representative sample of a slow night on 6th Street.
I’ve eaten here a few times, along with giant shared margaritas. It reminds me of my most memorable impromptu portrait sessions on the night of the Olympus PEN-F launch. I was there with a few Olympus employees and bloggers to celebrate. Six years later, the restaurant still remains, but Olympus does not. I’ve moved on from Olympus and micro 4/3 to Fujifilm and medium format.
