SXSW has grown into a multi-faceted show with movies, media, technology, education, and video games. The music comes last, usually in the second half. I go to media and technology, which kicks it off. I didn’t attend SXSW Music this year. But ran into the music tangentially. Let me explain.
Passing under an arch of cubes, Ibble put on a dynamic show. With a live performance center stage and a giant screen in the back. The park-turned-concert-venue pulsated with excitement.
During my short stay, two bands performed. Neither was my type of music, as I recall. But that wasn’t the point. I enjoyed the photography and taking in the energy. And often, when I’m concentrating on picture-taking, the music falls into the background. It’s like most of my brain is busy processing the visual signals. Concert photography became yet something else to document as I wandered through SXSW.
It was satisfying photographing a concert. SXSW with any music, however tangential, seems necessary to complete the experience.
