I walked south from the center of Times Square and snapped this picture. I often capture visually attractive structures without knowing what they are. Luckily we have Google Maps. A few keystrokes and I figured out what and where this is.
The Knickerbocker is a 5-star hotel located on Broadway and 42nd Street. I consider it the southern border of the Time Square district.
While not one of the newest angular glass structures taking over the area, this ornate facade has clearly been renovated — great to see that the historic buildings remain. A sea of only modern structures is a recipe for monotony. That’s the benefit of New York City over some of the newer cities with a thin architectural history. Building variety.
