I passed by the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum during my morning walk in San Antonio. I stepped into what looked like a run-of-the-mill tourist attraction, and their stuffed animal collection floored me. I figured it deserved a quick photo before continuing on my walk.
Quite unexpectedly, there’s significant history, which I didn’t realize as described in this Wikipedia post. The Buckhorn started as a private collection of Albert Friedrich. Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, was reputed to frequent the establishment.
The collection includes 520 species of wildlife from every continent, including an elephant and a giraffe. Though, I haven’t seen anything as exotic as this.
