I’ve praised the Pearl District in San Antonio for the last couple posts. Here we see a glimpse of the crown jewel, the fully renovated Pearl Brewery, now the Hotel Emma.
I used buildings in a back alleyway to frame the structure. The bricks, and narrow alley, along with the ornate building, have a European look. And even though many of Europe’s buildings are even more historical, this is about as European as it gets in Texas. However, the downtown River Walk and the Spanish Squares compete for old-world architectural bragging rights in San Antonio.
The collection of older buildings with early Spanish and German influence, and modern architecture, makes San Antonio different from Austin. The history adds gravitas and new development ensures the city isn’t stuck in the past.
