Maybach at Dolby, SXSW 2023 – Austin, Texas

Centerstage at the rear of the SXSW 2023 Dolby exhibit was this Maybach, the most upscale Merceds-Benz available — positioned above the Mercedes S-Class. They had it there to demo the Dolby-enhanced high-end sound system.

Google says the least expensive model starts at $185,000. It’s the most expensive car I’ve sat in. It was nice, of course, though too over-the-top for me. At this point in my life, however, I’ll take a luxury car over a sports car. I rather ride in comfort than go fast.

I got a sound demo — it was loud. I’m not an audiophile, but I know enough that you don’t blast the music to appreciate the sound quality. Furthermore, the person demoing it didn’t understand. From what I can tell, however, my home stereo sounds superior. And yes, I do have Dolby Atmos surround sound technology at home. It also costs a lot less than a Maybach, thankfully.
