I rarely go down to Rainey Street. It’s gotten jam-packed, and it was always difficult to park, even when it was less popular a decade ago. Nowadays, SXSW is one of the few times I go down there. And every time I go, multiple developments have changed radically.
There’s a constant flurry of high-rise condo developments, each growing ever taller. Even the bars are super sizing. I noticed this ridiculous-looking second and third-story extension above the original structure, precariously supported by stilts. It was all dressed up for SXSW.
Paramount+ has rented out the space for their streaming promotion. One of many, I’m sure, during South By. Many bars lease their space to various entities during SXSW. However, none of them look as bizarre as Clive.
