When shooting the street, it’s natural to feel uncomfortable. You might feel like you are intruding upon others. Many photographers prefer to be behind the camera rather than in front. But that’s not true for everyone. Some people love to be photographed.
That was one of the unexpected things I learned as I started street photography. I’ve had random people ask me to take their pictures. However, there weren’t interested in the photograph. Maybe it’s their excitement of being shot with a real camera, and they’re just seeking attention.
On Rainey Street during SXSW, I was shooting a background bar when this woman posed — I rattled off a few frames. She continued without any further interaction.
