Like Jazmin a few days ago, Terra also returns to the blog — I think they are friends and attended Drink and Click together. I last featured her on the blog on November 2022. This session occurred this January at The Ballroom just north of the University of Texas campus.
Today’s post and the two before that all feature subjects looking right instead of directly at the camera. I don’t have a preferred style and usually select a portrait I like the most — often, there are multiple poses to choose from. However, compared to a well-lit location during the daytime, there is a bias of the model looking toward the light source, as requested — it creates a better-lit subject without unwanted shadows.
A more elaborate setup would have multiple lights that add additional flexibility. A single LED light without a softbox or reflector makes for a crude experience, though I enjoy working with what I have — it’s more challenging and requires more creativity. And, having extensive shadows in monochrome adds more mystery.
