A couple of days ago, I gave you a view from the second level of the Eiffel Tower at 400 feet. I’m on the third level now — the highest level — at 900 feet. As you can see, there is a considerable difference.
With no tall buildings in central Paris, it seems even taller. It looks like a drone or from an airplane window perspective. The Eiffel Tower was the tallest man-made structure in the world for 41 years until the Chrysler Building in New York City was completed in 1930.
Of course, New York City, particularly Manhattan, has many tall skyscrapers. The new crop of buildings has now overshadowed the elegant Chrysler Building. By contrast, here’s the view of midtown Manhattan from the Top of the Rock, an observation deck at Rockefeller Center. It’s only 50 feet shorter at 850 feet than the third level of the Eiffel Tower, but it doesn’t seem as high because of the surrounding buildings.
The view from New York City is fantastic, but Paris has a top-of-the-world feeling from the Eiffel Tower.
We didn’t visit the first level partially because we didn’t know about it. We could’ve stopped at it on the elevator ride down. Perhaps the next time, we will spend more time, see each level, and even eat at one of the restaurants.
