Today’s picture is the only one I didn’t have in my Magazine coverage of the event last month. The color image sat there in my photo library, and it didn’t particularly shine until I happened to convert it into a black and white.
It happens sometimes. An image doesn’t look very compelling, but still worthwhile to keep. I fiddle with it, and it transforms into something better than expected. The most prominent example of this is this beautifully graphic and architectural building in Switzerland. It’s one of my favorites.
I can’t claim the same level of transformation for today’s photograph. However, the glowing ticket booths and the mysterious shadowy customers make it surprisingly satisfying. Extra points for that dainty Christmas tree between the two booths. Incidentally, the white floating specs are not snow—they are soap bubbles. In Austin, if we actually got snow, everything would be shut down.
