Motion Blur on The Drag

Guadalupe Motion Blur – Austin, Texas

I walked back to Guadalupe Street, which forms the western edge of the University of Texas campus. The street is known as The Drag, and its commercial strip serves as a convenient retail center for the university community.

In the distance, some more of the fancy new high-rise dorms that have recently sprung up in West Campus. A motion blur in the foreground would add a visual touch. Ideally, a tripod would work better so that I could set a really slow shutter speed, but I didn’t have one. I just handheld the Leica D-Lux 8 with a 1/4-second shutter speed. A car turning the corner added a sparkly effect in the bottom left corner.

One-quarter of a second shutter speed is the so-so point for this camera’s lens-based image stabilization. Sometimes, the images look sharp, and other times, less so. This image was less than perfect, with more hand shake than I preferred. However, I liked the turning car effect, so I processed this image with Topaz Photo AI to correct the camera shake. I worked reasonably well and made for a noticeably sharper image overall.
