As you can see, the second of the Tree Abstract mini-series is totally different from the first. Not only is it black and white, but it also uses a 40mm equivalent focal length, so a long telephoto wasn’t used to make this image.
Less obvious is the camera I used, the medium-format Fujifilm GFX 50R with a 51MP sensor. Shot at f16, everything is tack-sharp from edge to edge. Conceptually, my Fuji X-E3 with the 15-45mm kit lens would produce a similar look, though I can tell you that there will be a tremendous difference in detail and image quality.
While sharpness and resolution don’t make as much of a difference as you may think for some subjects, I think they really shine here. Unfortunately, at these web resolutions, you don’t get to revel in the details. But looking at it on my 5K monitor, the detail and texture of the forest are what make the image.
