First National Bank Building

First National Bank Building - Taylor, Texas

First National Bank Building – Taylor, Texas

We are down to the last two posts from my 2022 tour of Taylor, Texas. We are at the corner of Main and 2nd Streets, looking south. The featured building looks rundown, especially at night. The Internet reports that the building is undergoing renovation, although there doesn’t appear to be much visible construction.

What appears to be a stone is actually a facade made of plaster, designed to resemble the more impressive and durable material. Built in 1883, the First National Bank is located diagonally from my favorite structure, the handsome all-brick Taylor National Bank building.

Also interesting is the large bridge to the left of the building. White balancing the foreground building has oddly rendered the bridge lights into a bluish-purple. I did a whole photo essay about this ugly bridge that destroys the fabric of downtown. You can see from those pictures how it cuts the town in half. The adverse effects of the bridge are not as visible from this vantage point
