Cyclist in the shadow of the Capitol – Havana, Cuba

The light and the background architecture were so wonderful that I had to take more pictures down this street. I’ll show you one more today and spare you from the rest.

I like this picture because it’s similar yet very different from the photo I featured three days ago. It makes for a good discussion about photography and how nearly identical elements can work together very differently. Let’s ignore the fact that in the other picture, the people are on a motorcycle instead of a bicycle. The similarities include a two-wheeled vehicle down a street in Cuba with the Capitol in the background.

The picture from three days ago is all about the two people on the motorcycle. Their expressions are wonderful, and because I used a larger aperture, the background architecture is more out of focus. I wanted to emphasize the people instead of the background. Mainly because the buildings weren’t particularly exciting.

In today’s picture, it’s about the cyclist in context to the fantastic architecture that surrounds him. I shot this at f8, which makes more of the frame in sharper focus. There is no cute kid to steal the show. The picture shows the entire scene, not just the cyclist.
