I went to the AISD (Austin Independent School District) Performing Arts Center, for the first time today. I was there for a concert at this new, central facility for the Austin Public School System. I write, with a bit of parental pride, that my younger son was performing in the All Region Symphony Orchestra. Nice to see such hardworking, talented kids perform and at a marvelous place like this.
Unlike the garage bands that make Austin famous, in the self-proclaimed “Live Music Capital of the World”, this is a different kind of performance. Classical or orchestral music isn’t very popular in Austin, or the U.S. for that matter, at least compared to Europe. But these kids all put in years of practice to get to this level. It’s not the same as picking up a few chords on a guitar.
Shot with my Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II, my usual setup for school concerts. I don’t do much video, I’m very much a stills photographer. But as a parent, I record my kid’s performances on video, with the Olympus.
