Unlike the previous central library, this new one is in the heart of the growing residential high-rise neighborhood on the western edge of the central business district. The interior and the library’s porches have a commanding view of the growing skyline.
The new library, in the foreground, is surrounded by low-water landscapes and borders Shoal Creek. The new 2nd Street Bridge, which I talked about a couple of days ago is towards the left, as is the newest skyscrapers.
The library is re-imagined, not merely a place for borrowing books and doing research. Rather, it’s a giant community center with a future café and restaurant. There are spaces for special events and even computers that can be checked out. It’s really a post-library library. It’s been open less than 2 months. I’m interested to see how it develops over time.
