For years I’ve heard of EAST, the East Austin Studio Tour. Finally, this past weekend, I attended. With some 575 studios and temporary pop-up exhibits throughout the east side of Austin, it was overwhelming. I concentrated on a few of the larger hubs featuring groups of artists.
I didn’t know what to expect or why it was apparently so popular. What I found was a dynamic and accessible art scene, far removed from the usually serious and sometimes snooty art museums. The works on display maybe from lesser known artists, compared to what you may find in the big museums, but the enthusiasm is palpable. And, there’s nothing like having a one on one conversation with the artist.
I shot this at the very end of my two day experience. An multimedia art installation from Essentials Creative.

Is it a cutout or a real girl. Looks two dimensional.
This is a cutout. Your eyes are not tricking you.
Thanks for clarifying! 😃
